These sides have started the season in contrasting fashion and our tipster is backing the away team to come out on top in this California derby

Los Angeles FC will be looking to continue their impressive start to the MLS season when they make the trip north to San Jose Earthquakes.

Bob Bradley’s men are top of the Western Conference with three wins and draw and will certainly fancy their chances of adding another victory against one of the division’s worst sides.

LAFC are 19/20 (1.95) favourites with bet365 to beat the Earthquakes, as they did twice last season during their maiden MLS campaign.

San Jose have lost all three of their games this season and can be backed at 13/5 (3.60) to win just their second home league game since April 1 2018, whilst the draw at Avaya Stadium is the same price.

The hosts are missing defender Kevin Partida, who tore his ACL in July last year and is yet to recover. Chris Wondolowski has not found the net this season but is two goals away from becoming MLS's all-time top scorer.

LAFC will be without midfielder Alejandro Guido and forward Rodolfo Zelaya for the all-California clash. Lee Nguyen has missed the last two matches with a hamstring problem but could return.

Los Angeles boasted the fifth-best away record last season with 23 points from 17 games, which is more impressive than it appears due to the importance of home advantage in MLS.

That advantage, though, is largely wiped away when it is San Jose playing in front of their own fans, considering the northern California club picked up just 12 points at Avaya Stadium last term.

They have started 2019 in similarly dire fashion, too, with a 2-1 loss against Montreal preceding a 3-0 drubbing by Minnesota United. For context, Minnesota won just one away MLS game in 2018.

San Jose will still be reeling from three consecutive losses to begin what is likely to be another woeful season, and there is little to suggest a rampant LAFC won’t take full advantage.

Taking Los Angeles at the outright price of 19/20 (1.95) is good value anyway but with 10 goals to their name after four games, adding a -1 handicap takes the price to 11/5 (3.20) looks the way to go.
