On this day in 2012, Gerrard scored an iconic hat-trick in the Merseyside derby

Gerrard scored in the first half and then twice more after the break - including one in the final minute - to earn Liverpool their biggest win against Everton in nine years and ensure Moyes remains without an away derby win in his decade in charge at Goodison Park.

It was also the first hat-trick in a Merseyside derby since Ian Rush scored four in the Reds' 5-0 win at Goodison Park in 1982, and the first at Anfield since Fred Howe achieved the feat for Liverpool in 1935.

On this day in 2012, Mario Gomez scored four as Bayern demolished Basel 7-0

Arjen Robben's crisp finish levelled the tie on aggregate before Thomas Mueller volleyed in at the near post.

Gomez tapped in a third, volleyed a fourth and headed a fifth to complete his fifth hat-trick of the season.

The Germany striker rifled in his fourth before Robben's low finish completed a historic victory.

While it was a humiliation for the Swiss champions, it was an awesome display of attacking from the hosts just a week after Barcelona hit seven against Bayer Leverkusen at the Nou Camp.

On this day in 2016, Watford beat current holders Arsenal 2-1 in FA Cup

Odion Ighalo scored his first goal in 599 minutes to put the away side ahead early in the second half after Arsenal had spurned a series of good chances.

Adlene Guedioura then smashed home with the visitors' second shot on target.

Substitute Danny Welbeck scored with two minutes left to set up a dramatic finish, before missing the chance to force a replay from an open goal.
