Gylfi Sigurdsson's brace for Everton away to Cardiff saw him rise above Manchester United pair Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the Premier League top scorers chart.
The Icelandic midfielder struck twice, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a third in stoppage time, as he continues to be a driving force for the Toffees this campaign.
Sigurdsson is now on 11 league goals which sees him above Rashford and Martial - who have nine goals each - and Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, who has eight goals so far.
The brace against Cardiff from the former Swansea City man also brought with it a piece of history for Iceland.
Going into the contest in Wales, Sigurdsson had been level with compatriot Eidur Gudjohnsen on 55 goals.
After two finishes, he now holds the Premier League scoring record outright for a player from Iceland with a current total of 57.
Sigurdsson joined Everton in the summer of 2017 but soon struggled to live up to the £45million price tag he cost the Merseysiders.
His large fee saw his performances come under scrutiny and many expected to see more from his final ball in terms of goals and assists.
The brace against Cardiff showed the quality he possesses and the impact he can have on a game as he propelled himself into double figures in the league.
Everton are without a clinical and recognised centre-forward and have looked to spread the goals around the team with expectation landing with Richarlison and Sigurdsson, given the fees it took to sign them.
A deeper assessment of stats shows that Sigurdsson does make an impact as he ranks alongside Manchester City supremo David Silva in chances created in the league this season with 49.
Set-pieces are one of his specialities and he is sixth in the list of players to have created the most chances from them. Leicester City's James Maddison tops the pile.
While expectation is high on Sigurdsson, he has more goals than Rashford, Martial and Sane who are in teams creating more chances per game and would be expected to already have higher goal returns this season.
The trio could well close the gap on Sigurdsson on Wednesday night given Manchester United travel to Crystal Palace and Manchester City welcome West Ham to the Etihad Stadium.
