Hi all, welcome to All Football's On This Day! Let's find out what happened today (February 27th) in football history. If you have more stories and news that happened on this day in history, feel free to post them in the comment area and share them with AFers!

On this day in 1900 - FC Bayern Munich was established

Happy birthday, FC Bayern! The club was founded 119 years ago on 27 February. 11 young men established FC Bayern München at Café Gisela in the Munich district of Schwabing. Their leader was Franz John, who would later become FCB's first president. It was a minor rebellion as the foundation meant a split from their previous club Männer-Turn-Verein (MTV; Men's Gymnastics Club), and the consequences were undreamed of.

The club which came into life in a side room at Café Gisela is currently the world's biggest sports club. FC Bayern has more then 291,000 members, and more than 4,400 fan clubs from all around the globe support the German record champions, who have amassed an impressive trophy collection over the last 119 years: 28 German championship titles, 18 DFB Cup triumphs, five Champions League/European Cup titles, two Intercontinental Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Supercup.

On this day in 2010 - Arsenal midfielder Ramsey's leg was broken

The Gunners midfielder's ankle buckled under a challenge by Ryan Shawcross, who was sent off and departed in tears.

Stoke had taken the lead when Danny Pugh headed in from Rory Delap's long throw-in but Nicklas Bendtner levelled with a fine header back across goal.

Cesc Fabregas scored a penalty before Thomas Vermaelen tapped in, as Arsenal moved to only three points off Chelsea.

But the game will be remembered for the injury to Ramsey, which bore an eerie similarity to the broken leg suffered by Gunners striker Eduardo against Birmingham, with television producers opting not to show replays of the incident.

Shawcross took a heavy touch and caught Ramsey just above the ankle as he stretched for the ball.

The Welshman collapsed on contact and he was left writhing on the floor, with his right foot appearing to hang at an unnatural angle.

On this day in 2005 - Mourinho won his first trophy as Chelsea boss

Jose Mourinho lifted the Carling Cup in 2005 despite being sent off during the final.

Jose Mourinho’s first silverware as Chelsea manager came courtesy of an extraordinary League Cup final success over Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium.

John Arne Riise put Rafael Benitez’s side ahead with a volley inside the opening minute but a Steven Gerrard own-goal took the final into extra-time.

Mourinho was sent off during normal time but watched Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman both strike to put his side in control, with the Blues able to hold on for the win despite Antonio Nunez reducing the deficit with a late header.

He went on to win three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two more League Cups with the club.

On this day in 1977 - Maradona made his debut for Argentina

On 27 February 1977, Argentina beat Hungary 5-1 in a friendly that marked the international debut of 16-year old Diego Maradona.

At the time, Hungary had been the more successful team, with two World Cup finals (1938 and 1954), three Olympic gold medals (1952, 1964, 1968) and one silver medal (1972). But they were in decline, failing to qualify for the 1974 World Cup, the 1976 Olympics, or the 1976 European Championship. Argentina, meanwhile, had reached the Olympic final in 1928 and the World Cup final in 1930, but had since done little on the global stage (they did have 12 Copa América trophies, however).

For the friendly, they met at the Bombanera in Buenos Aires, where approximately 60,000 people turned out to watch. By half time, the hosts were up 4-0 with a hat-trick from Daniel Bertoni (11', 18') and a goal from Leopoldo Luque (37'). Luque added another just after the break (47') to extend the lead to 5-0 before Hungary substitute Zombori Sándor pulled one back in the 61st minute.

One minute later, Argentina made a couple of substitutions of their own, taking Ricardo Villa off for Jorge Benítez and replacing Luque with young Argentinos Juniors midfielder Diego Maradona. It was Maradona's first appearance for Argentina and he would go on to become the country's greatest player, earning a total of 91 caps and leading them to World Cup glory in 1986.

On this day in 2011 - Arsenal defeated 2-1 by Birmingham in EFL Cup Final

Birmingham took the lead in the 28th minute when a corner kick was sent into the box, Roger Johnson won the initial header towards goal which was then flicked in off the head of Nikola Žigić past Wojciech Szczęsny into the net. Arsenal levelled 11 minutes later when, moments after Jack Wilshere struck the crossbar with a shot, Robin van Persie volleyed an Andrei Arshavin cross in with his right foot. However, Van Persie injured himself upon landing, and while he was initially able to continue, he struggled as the match went on and was eventually substituted by Nicklas Bendtner.

On 83 minutes, Birmingham brought on Obafemi Martins in place of Fahey. Six minutes later, and in the final minute of normal time, Martins scored to put Birmingham 2–1 up after a mix-up between Szczęsny and defender Laurent Koscielny. A long ball from Blues keeper Foster, flicked on by Žigić, appeared to be heading safely into the hands of the Arsenal keeper. But Koscielny attempted to play the ball, distracting Szczęsny and causing him to bobble the ball into the path of Martins, who tapped it into an empty net.

On this day in 2010 - Man City beat Chelsea 4-2

Frank Lampard's low strike put Chelsea ahead but Carlos Tevez equalised after a long ball was not dealt with, before Craig Bellamy shot beyond Hilario.

Tevez scored a penalty after Juliano Belletti saw red for a trip on Gareth Barry before a Bellamy tap-in.

Michael Ballack also saw red and Lampard scored a consolation penalty.

All eyes before kick-off were focused on Terry and Bridge, who came face-to-face for the first time since allegations about the former's relationship with the latter's ex-partner.

As it turned out, Bridge - who this week ruled out playing for England at the World Cup - shunned Terry's outstretched hand.

On this day in 1993 - PSG keeper Areola was born

As an academy graduate of PSG, Areola spent the early parts of his career on loan, enjoying spells with Lens, Bastia and Villarreal. During his stint with the latter, Areola broke the club record for the longest period of play without conceding a goal, remaining unbeaten for a period of 620 minutes. He returned to PSG in 2016 where he has since made over 70 appearances for the club.

He also represented France at every youth level and was part of the France U20 side that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2013 and the senior side that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup trophy.

On this day in 1995 - Lazio starlet Milinkovic-Savic was born

On 31 July 2015, it was announced that Milinković-Savić would join Italian club Lazio. He made his debut for the side in a 1–0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the Champions League play-off round on 18 August 2015. Milinković-Savić scored his first goal for Lazio in a 1–1 Europa League draw with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on 17 September 2015. He scored his first Serie A goal in a 3–1 away win over Fiorentina on 9 January 2016. Over the course of his debut season, Milinković-Savić made 35 appearances and scored three goals for Lazio in all competitions.

In October 2015, Milinković-Savić received his first call-up to the full squad by manager Radovan Ćurčić for Serbia's UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers against Albania and Portugal. He remained an unused substitute in both games. In May 2016, Milinković-Savić was selected by newly appointed manager Slavoljub Muslin for friendly matches against Cyprus, Israel, and Russia. However, after failing to receive any playing time in the first two games, Milinković-Savić left the team in agreement with Muslin who said that some other players better fit into his tactical formations.

In June 2018 he was selected in the Serbian squad for the 2018 World Cup, playing all three group stage matches.

On this day in 1978 - Milan legend Kaladze was born

Kaladze started his football career in 1993 at Umaglesi Liga club Dinamo Tbilisi and made 82 appearances in a five-year spell. In 1998, he moved to the Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv and made 71 appearances until 2001, when he was signed by the Italian Serie A club Milan. He has won one Serie A, three Ukrainian Premier League and five Umaglesi Liga titles.

With Milan, he won the Champions League on two occasions, the UEFA Super Cup once and the FIFA Club World Cup once. After captaining his country 50 times in 84 appearances, Kaladze announced his retirement from the Georgian national team on 11 December 2011.

On this day in 1999 - The Last Of The English Starting XIs

On 27 February 1999, Aston Villa fielded an all-English starting eleven--the last time that's happened in the Premier League.

At the time, Villa were in fourth place and took the pitch that day at home against Coventry City, who were sitting in the relegation zone at 18th. Coventry had not won at Villa Park in 23 attempts and Villa had won the season's earlier fixture at Highfield Road, 1-2, so would have been understandably confident if not for the fact that they had taken only a single point from their last four league matches.

The visitors struck first when their Australian striker, John Aloisi, found the back of the net after 25 minutes. The situation grew worse for the hosts when manager John Gregory had to make two substitutions before the break, replacing Ian Taylor and Steve Watson with Mark Draper and Gareth Barry (still keeping a full English side).

Dion Dublin eventually scored for Villa from the penalty spot, but another goal from Aloisi and two stunning strikes from Dutch midfielder George Boateng ended the day 1-4 to Coventry.

(Villa's starting XI that day were Michael Oakes, Alan Wright, Gareth Southgate, Steve Watson, Riccardo Scimeca, Ian Taylor, Paul Merson (pictured), Simon Grayson, Lee Hendrie, Dion Dublin, and Julian Joachim; with Gareth Barry, Stan Collymore, and Mark Draper as substitutes.)
