LIKE A MODEL: 'Kun' Aguero - From Maradona's son-in-law to the King of Etihad

Sergio Aguero is one of the top strikers in world football, but his rise to superstardom hasn’t always been smooth. Born into poverty, his stock has risen with big clubs like Independiente and Atletico Madrid on his CV and also a Premier League champion with Manchester City.

Agüero earned his nickname Kun when his grandparents noted his resemblance to Japanese anime character Kum Kum and He has a son with Diego Maradona's daughter, Giannina Maradona.

On 5 July 2003, Agüero made his Independiente debut, aged just 15 years, one month and three days, which broke the long-standing record of Diego Maradona. But after just one full season,  he was sold to Atlético Madrid for €23m which was a record fee for both Atlético and the Argentine top-flight.

Five years later, with the Europa League triumph and the Super Cup in the cabinet, Agüero decided that he was ready for a new challenge, opting to move to Manchester City in the Premier League, which he watched as a youngster in Argentina. As 30 years old, Aguero has became the King of Etihad and he recently got his 11th hat-trick in the PL. 

On joining City, he said: “I’m very happy at the city, very happy since the day I came, I knew that the project was good and in my head, there is nothing else but Manchester City, so how long I’m going to be at the city is just never a question”.

I like tricks, I like to dazzle. Dribbling and leaving your opponent on his backside is what life is for. If I achieve what I want to, then I’ll mark a distinct era in football. I’m the Che Guevara of modern soccer. “Maradona made some ‘noise’ in his day and I want to roar a bit in my day, now!
