Hi all, welcome to All Football's On This Day! Let's find out what happened today (February 7th) in football history. If you have more stories and news that happened on this day in history, please post them in the comment area and share them with AFers!

On this day in 1970, George Best scored six against Northampton

As later described by the Daily Mirror, "Best destroyed them as completely as one man can destroy others without inflicting physical damage," noting that the six goals "came from the full range of his ability. A far-post header, a near-post header. A sprint, a touch and a shot that was a classic example of his devastating finishing." But the most memorable goal was his sixth--with United already up 7-1, Best dribbled straight at Book, then sent him sprawling with a little shoulder fake before slotting the ball into the open goal.

By the end of the match, even Northampton fans in the stadium were applauding Best's performance.

On this day in 2015, Kane scored brace vs Arsenal in his first ever North London Derby

On 2 February 2015, Kane signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the club. Five days later, he scored both of Tottenham's goals as they came from behind to defeat Arsenal in the North London derby, his 21st and 22nd goals of the season across all competitions.

On this day in 1992, Barca full-back Sergi Roberto was born

Sergi Roberto plays predominantly as a full-back, but also excels in midfield. In the 2015–16 season, under Luis Enrique, he played in seven different positions with Barcelona. This versatility, combined with his pace, strength, rigorous work rate and accurate passing earned the praise of the manager: “In a team like ours, except in goal, he could play in any position, it’s no surprise. The most difficult thing is doing it well all over the field and Sergi Roberto does that.” He is best utilized as a box-to-box player.

On 8 March 2017, Roberto scored the final goal for Barcelona in the 95th minute as part of a 6–1 home victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16, making the former the first club to overcome a four-goal deficit in the competition.

On this day in 2004, Yoann Gourcuff made his Ligue 1 debut

He was on the bench as eleventh-place Rennes hosted third-place Auxerre and watched as the hosts went down 0-2 to goals from Philippe Mexès (16') and Bonaventure Kalou (54'). That was still the score when Gourcuff entered the match as Rennes' third and final sub, replacing Cédric Barbosa in the 77th minute, and remained the margin when the final whistle blew.

It was the first of nine Ligue 1 appearances for Gourcuff that season, followed by an additional 57 before he left for AC Milan in 2006. But in 2008, he returned to France to play for Bordeaux, winning both the league and the Coupe de la Ligue in the 2008-09 season. He was then voted the league's Player of the Year and, later, the French Player of the Year.

On this day in 1998,  Former Greece captain Zagorakis made his Leicester debut

Zagorakis played an important role in Greece's win in the 2004 European Championships, and was named the Player of the Tournament by UEFA and cosenquently he was in the Team of the Tournament. FIFA named Zagorakis as a contender for the 2004 FIFA World Player of the Year award, as well as UEFA named him for the 2004 Ballon d'Or award (he finished in fifth place).
