Peter Crouch has made a welcome return to the Premier League after Burnley signed the striker from Stoke in the final days of the transfer window.

The 38-year-old has joined until the end of the season as part of the deal that sees Sam Vokes move the other way.

Crouch has played in the Premier League with six different clubs (he has played for eight in total) and arrives at Turf Moor with 108 goals in 462 appearances in England's elite league. Sportsmail charts the journey of his career...

TOTTENHAM 1998-2000

Crouch came through the ranks at White Hart Lane but never made a senior appearance as a youngster. Two loan spells, at Dulwich Hamlet and IFK Hasselholm in Sweden, aided his development and in 2000, he headed from north London to west for first team football.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 2000-01

The Hoops bought Crouch for £60,000 and he hit the ground running at Loftus Road with 14 goals in all competitions. It wasn't enough, however, to keep them in Division One and relegation meant QPR had to sell to balance their books.

PORTSMOUTH 2001-02

Graham Rix's Portsmouth swooped, splashing out £1.5m and immediately reaped the rewards. He fired 19 goals in Division One and caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs. Aston Villa won the race to buy him the following March.

ASTON VILLA 2002-04

Crouch arrived at Villa Park for a £5m fee and scored two goals in seven games for the remainder of the season, including on his home debut against Newcastle. But the following season, he struggled to hold down a place.

He went on loan to Norwich for three months in 2003 and enjoyed better form towards the end of the season back in the Premier League with Villa but it was clear his future was away from the midlands.

SOUTHAMPTON 2004-05

Crouch found himself behind James Beattie and Kevin Phillips at St Mary's but Harry Redknapp's arrival in January, coinciding with Beattie's move to Everton, saw him become a regular.

He thrived, scoring 16 goals in 33 games and winning his first England call-up. Southampton were relegated, meaning yet another move was on the cards for the striker... to the Champions League winners.

LIVERPOOL 2005-08

Crouch endured a rocky start at Liverpool after a £7m switch, failing to score in his first 19 games. But when he eventually broke that deadlock with a looping deflected strike against Wigan, there wasn't much stopping him.

He helped Liverpool to the FA Cup in 2006, scoring the only goal as the Reds knocked out Manchester United on the way. He scored his first career hat-trick - a perfect hat-trick, too - in a 4-1 win over Arsenal the following season and was unlucky not to start the 2007 Champions League final, which Liverpool lost 2-1 to AC Milan.

Crouch also developed a knack of scoring acrobatic kicks, which he'd go on to repeat later on his career at Portsmouth, who he rejoined in 2008 after finding opportunities restricted at Anfield due to the arrival of Fernando Torres.

PORTSMOUTH 2008-09

Crouch made a triumphant return to Fratton Park for a season after they had won the FA Cup and entered the Europa League. He scored 16 in 46, Portsmouth finished 14th in the league and were unable to make it out of their group containing AC Milan, Wolfsburg and Heerenveen.

Another impressive season meant yet another move, and another return, was on the cards for Crouch.

TOTTENHAM 2009-2011

A £10m move saw Crouch back at White Hart Lane and he finally made his first team bow for the club he started at.

He helped Spurs into the Champions League in his first season back, scoring the decisive goal 1-0 win at Manchester City.

He led Tottenham into the Champions League group stages with a treble against Swiss side Young Boys in a qualifier and they reached the quarter-final before being knocked out by Real Madrid.

STOKE 2011-19

Crouch headed to the Britannia Stadium for £10m in August 2011 and he went on to make over 250 appearances in an eight-year spell with The Potters, socring 62 goals.

He brought up a personal landmark of his own against Everton, scoring his 100th Premier League career goal almost 15 years from his first, for Villa against Newcastle in 2002.

Stoke were relegated at the end of the 2017-18 season but Crouch remained and scored twice in 26 games before joining Burnley in the 2019 January window.

AND DON'T FORGET...

Crouch has enjoyed a brilliant England career, scoring 22 goals in 42 games including a strike at the 2006 World Cup against Trinidad and Tobago and, of course, a hat-trick against Jamaica where he celebrated by doing the robot.
