Lyon star Memphis Depay takes swipe at Manchester United; names clubs he wants to join

Dutch-born of Ghanaian descent Memphis Depay has taken a subtle swipe at Manchester United as he omitted the club’s name from the ‘big’ European clubs he wants to join when he leaves Lyon.

Depay joined French Ligue 1 giants Lyon in January 2017 after his ill-fated season-and-a-half at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has proved a big hit in France, scoring 33 times in 91 appearances.

The tricky forward is now setting his sights on a new and grander challenge.

“Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe,' he told Helden magazine.

'I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.”

'I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football.”

“I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold. But I'm focused right now on Lyon, and then we see where I end up.”
