The former referee was not happy with the Argentine's two-footed challenge on Wilfried Zaha and believes the Man Utd centre-back should've been shown a straight red card

Former referee Howard Webb has blasted Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo for his lunging challenge on Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha.

Argentine Rojo jumped into a tackle with Wilfried Zaha with both feet off the floor, a similar challenge to the one that saw him yellow carded in the Everton game for leaving Idrissa Gueye in a heap.

Referee Craig Pawson also decided that a booking was sufficient punishment for the tackle, with Zaha fortunately jumping out of the way to avoid serious damage.

And former ref Webb is adamant that the challenge should have been met with a straight red card, expressing his disgust at the way Rojo dived into the tackle.

He told BT Sport: "What type of a tackle is that?! That's not a tackle for the ball. It's not a fair way to win the ball.

"It's just lunging at an opponent not with the force required for that tackle. There's no place for tackles like that in the modern game. It should be a red."

United went on to win the game 2-1 courtesy of a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic winner, with Jose Mourinho's side remaining in sixth place in the Premier League table.
